Highs and Lows for Wilson Brothers Racing at Bathurst

It was an up and down day for the two car Wilson Brothers Racing outfit in practice for the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on Sunday.

The number 25 entry of Kurt Kratzmann, Inky Tulloch and Brent Collins completed 13 laps in a stop start session number one, with Kratzmann in his four laps able to set a time of 2:38.4566, swift enough for eighth overall.

Tulloch was next fastest with a 2:42.2285 from his allotment of six laps in his first Bathurst appearance in 20 years, while Bathurst rookie Collins completed several exploratory laps of the mountain.

Although things were running smoothly in the 25 camp, the 26 entry of Andy Knight, Daniel Schulz and James Winslow suffered a set back late in the session when the timing belt in their Subaru WRX failed, forcing an engine change between sessions.

Prior to the setback, Knight set a fastest time of 2:43.7990, leaving the team 19th overall in the standings, although only a short distance from the top 10, with many more experienced crews just ahead of them on the time sheet.

The second session however did not go to plan with the new engine fitted, as fuel pump issues dogged the number 26 car, with none of the drivers able to fulfill their potential around the Mountain.

The number 25 car however had a trouble free run, with all three drivers close in lap times.

Kratzmann once again set the pace for the trio, with a quick lap time of 2:38.8450, good enough for 13th outright.

All three drivers put in a solid performance, and are in good stead for the race come 6:30am Sunday morning.

Team principal Cameron Wilson is optimistic with once more practice session before qualifying tomorrow.

“We are quite happy with the progress of car 25 and the drivers today who have been acclimatising themselves with the Bathurst circuit and the Subaru WRX Sti very well,” said Wilson.

“Car 26 was a recent purchase and unfortunately has been troublesome with niggling problems slowing their progress, but no doubt they will be resolved for tomorrow, and their true colours will shine.”
