Adleaide Thursday Ute Report
Kurt Wimmer banked his best ever qualifying position with the fourth fastest time in the Wilson Brothers Racing VE Holden Ute on the streets of Adelaide yesterday.
Despite not being noted as a strong qualifier, Wimmer was second for most of the session before dropping back, with qualifying this season counting for championship points.
Due to a lack of budget however, the opening round could be the final round of the season for Wimmer, with the car now wearing “Advertise Here” signage down its flanks.
Team manager Cameron Wilson is optimistic for a top result this weekend in front of the big crowd.
“Kurt did a fantastic job today, we know he can race well, and starting up the front of the grid will be a big bonus for him,” said Wilson.
“Kurt in this car is a very serious threat for the championship this year, so it’s important that he finds some sponsorship so he can continue on.”
“Due to the lack of budget, this is exactly how the car came off the track at Oran Park last year after it won the final two races of the season, so without any testing, to come here and be quick is just remarkable.”
The car is now wearing Castrol logos on the front guards, with lubricants now open, the team is using the tried and tested oils in the Holden.
The car did have a minor electrical gremlin in the morning practice session, however the Wilson Brothers Racing crew were able to rectify it for qualifying.
Race one for the weekend is at 4:00pm this afternoon, with the Saturday and Sunday races being telecast live on Channel 7 during their coverage of the V8 Supercars.
