Horsepower Heaven with V8 Utes in Townsville

Kurt Wimmer is revved up for a big weekend on the streets of Townsville, with the Wilson Brothers Racing VE Holden Ute having a fresh powerplant to play with on the new street circuit.

Wimmer, a former Holden Young Lion V8 Supercar driver has also picked up new backing for the weekend, with a sell out crowd expected for the V8 Utes first foray into northern Queensland.

Following on from picking up Blackwidow Fireworks as primary sponsor for the last round of the championship in Darwin, the number 32 ute will carry primary sponsorship from Tyres Plus, as well as bonnet sponsorship from RLS Data and Electrical, and Cheapa Auto Spares on the tailgate.

Wimmer is looking forward to the challenge of racing on a new circuit, which will provide a level playing field for the entire field.

“Being the first time anyone has seen the track will make thing interesting, and you can’t even practice the circuit on the Playstation yet!” Said Wimmer.

“We’ve gone to a few circuits this season for the first time and gone well, and we had a strong run on the Adelaide street circuit at the start of the season, so the concrete walls aren’t a problem.

“I’m rapt to have Tyres Plus, RLS Data and Electrical and Cheapa Auto Spares on board, and I think the V8 Utes will be really popular in Townsville.”

For Wilson Brothers Racing team principal Cameron Wilson, the event will be somewhat of a homecoming.

“Myself and my brother Benn ran the hire kart centre in Townsville back in 1995, so it will be very interesting to see how the city has changed since that time,” said Wilson.

“In the past two rounds we have definitely been struggling with a lack of grunt, but we’ve got an engine from Craigsted in the car now that has over 400HP, so it should be on the money.

“Having only one practice session before qualifying might make things a bit interesting, but we’re very confident that Kurt will be on the pace.”

The Wilson Brothers Racing team have been very busy of late, running a team of Geminis at Lakeside Park Raceway in Brisbane last weekend, the V8 Ute in Townsville this weekend, and a Subaru WRX for Lee Castle at Eastern Creek the weekend following.
