Castle Attacks Back at Eastern Creek

Electrical gremlins couldn’t hold back Lee Castle at Eastern Creek at the second round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship this weekend, with a pair of storming drives from the rear of the grid aboard the Wilson Brothers Racing Subaru WRX Sti.

An electrical glitch in the fuel system blew a fuse on the warm up lap of Saturday’s opening encounter, unfortunately resulting in the team’s first ever did not start in any class of racing.

A big effort by the pit crew, and a pair of forceful drives by Castle saw the WRX charge from the rear of grid to be classified fifth and fourth outright in the two Sunday races.

For Castle, the strong rebound from early problems was a pleasing result on a circuit that was not expected to favour the older Subaru.

“After a pretty average start to the weekend, it was very pleasing to come back and finish so strongly in the races,” said Castle.

“Race two was a lot of hard work, especially trying to find a way through the traffic on the first lap.

A mid race safety car bunched the field, and provided a sprint to the finish, with Castle able to make up five spots in the sprint to the finish to be classified fifth.

The final race featured a reverse grid handicap start, which once again saw Castle start from dead last on the grid.

“I didn’t make the start I hoped for in the last race, but I was able to pick my way through the traffic,” said Castle.

“A highlight was getting past Rod Salmon in the closing stages, proving that the Subaru can still do a good job against the latest EVO 10 Lancers.

“I’m really looking forward to the next round at Morgan Park Raceway back up in Queensland, and with not as high a top speed, it should really be a level playing field.”

Wilson Brothers Racing team principal Cameron Wilson was over the moon with Castle’s drive, as well as the effort put in by the team.

“Obviously there was some fabulous driving by Lee today,” said Wilson.

“The handling and engine package development work we have been doing has paid some dividends, but we need more work to keep up with the EVOs, because they will no doubt continue to improve.

“I’ve got to say a massive thank you to my brother Benn and John Desmond for their efforts on getting the car up and running again this weekend, it was been a really busy time of the year for the team, and they are on top of their game.”

The third round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship moves north for its first ever visit to Morgan Park Raceway on August 8-9.

Lee Castle and Wilson Brothers Racing would like to thank Castrol, Mercury Motorsport, Ecutek, MRT Performance, Ingear Industries, Racer Industries, Harris Visual 3D and Deluxe Screen Printing for their continued support.
