Castle and Subaru Set for Oran Park Showdown

Lee Castle is looking to keep that winning feeling alive at Oran Park Raceway next weekend, in the fourth round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship aboard the Wilson Brothers Racing Subaru WRX Sti.

At the previous championship round at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland, Castle was untouchable after taking a clean sweep of the race victories, and the crew is pumped up for a repeat performance at Oran Park.

For the first time this season, Castle returns to a championship venue which was used in the 2008 season, and is planning on putting that past experience to good use.

“It will be very helpful to back to back data from last year, especially at Oran Park where it is important to get the flow right coming off the bridge and onto the pit straight,” said Castle.

“I’m really looking forward to a final fling around there, and it’s a very important round because the championship really hangs in the balance.

“The field will no doubt be very competitive, and it will be very interesting to see how the points pan out with the class based championship pointscore.”

It will be a sad farewell to the circuit for all, with Castle having competed for several seasons at the Oran Park kart circuit, and the Wilson Brothers Racing Subarus and Utes having much success at the venue in recent years.

“It will be a fairly somber moment on Sunday evening when we finish racing, I think the last national level meeting there will be a bit of a red letter day for the Shannons Nationals,” said Castle.

“Oran Park is my favourite circuit, and I have a lot of fond memories of the place, a lot of world motorsport legends such as Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli raced there too.

“Hopefully there will be a replacement built soon; it will be a great loss.”

Wilson Brothers Racing team principal Cameron Wilson is looking to build on the momentum from the perfect score at round three of the championship.

“Oran Park suits the Subaru WRX Sti very well indeed, and we are looking for a repeat of Morgan Park, but with a much improved field of cars,” said Wilson.

“Lee was strong there last year, and it will be very interesting to back to back the car to last year with all of the development work that has been carried out in the past 12 months.”

Following on from Oran Park, the Australian Manufacturers Champion finishes at Sandown in November, the venue where Castle wrapped up the John Bowe Drivers Award last season.
